For the first time, U.S. life expectancy has surpassed 78 years, the government reported Wednesday. The increase is due mainly to falling mortality rates in almost all the leading causes of death. However, the U.S. continues to lag behind about 30 other countries in estimated life span. Japan is No. 1 on the list.

Racism is the cause of the death rate of aborigines in Australia dying at the same rate as that in the 1920s. Doctors bemoan decades of government indifference to the inequities. Some simply moved down the waiting list because of their race.

Just to put some things in perspective... 57,029,000 deaths tabulated for the year of 2002. Violence accounts for only 1%, War on .30%. Cardiovascular diseases being the highest. This place might not be such a bad place after all.
